Questions

How does the blocking work?

At your daily time, iOS pauses the apps you picked, using Apple’s Screen Time. Open one and you’ll see a Qalil screen instead. Open Qalil and read the Quran until you reach your daily target. Only active reading counts, so the timer stops if you leave the app or put the phone down for a while. When you reach the target, your apps unlock for the rest of the day. The next day it starts again at the same time.

The target grows gently. Each week you read on at least 5 of the 7 days, it goes up by your weekly increase (2 minutes unless you change it), until it reaches your maximum.

How do I change the time, target or apps?

Tap the gear on Qalil’s Home screen to open Settings. Under Rhythm you can change the Daily time, Daily target, Weekly increase and Maximum. Under Apps, “Apps to pause” opens Apple’s picker so you can add or remove apps. Changes apply straight away.

What are Pause and Emergency unlock?

They’re for the days that need them, and both are in Settings under Breaks.

Does Qalil need an internet connection?

No. The Quran text, fonts and translation are all inside the app, and Qalil works fully offline.

How do I remove all my data?

Delete Qalil from your iPhone. Everything it stored, including your settings, reading history, the apps you picked and the schedule, is on your phone only and is deleted with the app. Deleting it also removes the pauses. See the privacy policy for details.
